I recently bought a CPU expansion card for my second Amiga 2000 that I want to turn into a decent office machine. By saying CPU expansion card I am not doing this wonderful project justice because it is so much more than just a CPU extension.
What I am talking about is the “Dicke Olga” expansion card that enhances the Amiga 2000’s capabilities in supporting a 030 CPU as well as up to 128 megabytes of RAM as well as offering additional IDE channels to add additional drives, offering CF card slot that is easily accessible through the back of the Amiga allowing for easy swapping of hard disk – in case you want to play with different Workbench versions or machine designations or configurations. There are also options to add MMU and FPU to the card.
The project details can be found here: For Sale – Dicke Olga – 030 CPU 64/128MB Accelerator card for A2000 Amiga (Official host) | AmiBay
The card offering a premium configuration certainly has its price but after the initial pain that comes through an emptier wallet, holding the card in my hands, putting it into the amiga and it immediately working relieve some of that pain turning it into joy and awe and satisfaction that some of the enhanced scenarios that I want to use this amiga 2000 for.
I’ve purchased a ready setup card because I am not the best person with a soldering iron and at the same time I wanted results fairly quickly. Therefore I didn’t have to worry too much about assembly and the card was shipped in a state ready to be put into the amiga. Getting it to work is easy and you follow three main steps you make sure that the switches are in the right order you put the card into your amiga you supply the CF card if there is one and you install the additional CPU libraries required to leverage all of the functionalities that the card gives you.
The card is a beauty to look at:
